SAN PEDRO AND
PENINSULA HOMEOWNER’S COALITION
The Coalition represents 15 homeowners' or residents' associations in San Pedro and the eastern slope of the Rancho Palos Verdes, including your SSHA. The current chair is Andrew Mardesich from Homeowner's United. The Coalition's regular meetings are held on the 4th Monday of each month beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Little Company of Mary San Pedro Hospital's conference center. Members of the community are welcome to attend. South Shores is currently represented by Vern Hall and/or Jerry Gaines. The Coalition originated the concept for the Port Community Advisory Committee (PCAC) and holds three seats on this body.
The January meeting of the Coalition was chaired by Vice President Kathleen Woodfield and was held a new and temporary site: the Holy Trinity Parish Center. Our Association was represented by Vern and Joyce Hall. Much of the discussion centered on the plan to revise the makeup (and possibly the mission) of the PCAC. Vern reviewed the history of that organization and stated that the goals are still valid. Chuck Hart (a member of the appointed citizen's committee) discussed the status of the Specific Plan for the proposed Ponte Vista project and focused on potential traffic impacts. One of the key assumptions being challenged in the published Draft EIR is the average number of individuals per unit and the average number of daily trips they would take. Chuck also mentioned that the committee was given a tour of the City's Automated Traffic Signal (ATSAC) center where he learned that synchronized signals for Western Avenue are already budgeted for 2008, with or without the Ponte Vista development.
Vern described the success of our Association's annual meeting and suggested that the round table discussion format would be suitable for other groups to use.
